How a regular school run works

A school run is different from a one-off taxi. The same pick-up, the same school, the same times, every school day. When you book a school run taxi with us, we set up a repeating booking for the days and times you need, so you are not ringing up every morning.

Before the first journey we take the details we need: the child's name and age, the home and school addresses, the start and finish times, which entrance or gate to use, and who will hand over and collect the child at each end. We also ask for an emergency contact and how you want us to tell you that the journey has finished.

What parents in Kingston ask for

Kingston has a large number of schools, and many children travel across the borough or into neighbouring Richmond, Merton and Surrey for school. The journeys we are asked to cover include:

  • Primary school drop-offs and pick-ups within Kingston and Surbiton
  • Secondary school journeys towards New Malden, Wimbledon and Teddington
  • After-school clubs and activities on certain days of the week
  • One-off journeys when your usual arrangement falls through

If your child has a club on Tuesdays and an early finish on Fridays, we can set those up as part of the same booking.

Child seats and safety

Child seats are available on request. Tell us your child's age, and height or weight if you know it, so we fit the right seat before the first journey. Children who are old enough to travel without a seat sit in the back with a seatbelt.

All of our drivers hold a Transport for London private hire driver licence, which requires an enhanced criminal record check. [Add any extra school-run checks you can confirm, such as drivers who regularly carry children.]

Private hire cars must always be booked in advance. Your child should only ever get into a car you have booked with us.

Termly bookings and changes

School timetables change, and so do family plans. Let us know about:

  • Term dates and half terms so journeys are paused when the school is closed
  • Inset days and early finishes with as much notice as you can give
  • Illness or absence on the day, by phone

Fares and paying for a school run

Each school run journey has a fixed fare, set when the booking is made. You can pay by card or cash. For regular school runs, ask us about a [payment arrangement for regular bookings — confirm before publishing].

Siblings and shared school runs

If you have more than one child at the same school, or at schools on the same route, one car can usually take them together. Some families also share a school run with neighbours. For three or more children with school bags and sports kit, a 7 seater taxi or minibus gives everyone a proper seat.

Starting a new school run

Most families set up a school run before the start of term. Call us a week or two ahead so we have time to plan the route and arrange child seats. We will confirm the pick-up times and talk through the handover at each end.

Other family journeys

Parents who use our school run often book us for other family travel too, such as holiday trips with our Kingston to Heathrow taxi, or appointments with the family dog in our pet friendly taxi.

Frequently asked questions

Can you do the school run every day?

Yes. We set up a repeating booking for the days and times you need, and pause it for half terms and holidays when you tell us the dates.

Will my child have the same driver each time?

We try to keep a regular driver on regular school runs where we can, but we cannot always guarantee it. [Confirm what you can promise.] You will always be told who is coming if it changes.

Do you provide child seats for the school run?

Yes, on request. Tell us your child's age and size before the first journey so we fit the right seat.

What happens if school finishes early?

Call us as soon as you know about an early finish or a change in times, and we will move the pick-up.

Can one taxi take children to two different schools?

Often, yes, if the schools are on the same route and the times work. Give us both addresses and start times and we will check.
