Charing Cross station

Charing Cross sits on the Strand beside Trafalgar Square. It is the terminus for Southeastern trains to Tunbridge Wells, Hastings, Sevenoaks, Ashford, Dover and other parts of Kent, many of which also call at Waterloo East and London Bridge. For Kingston residents, it is also the closest station to many West End theatres, Covent Garden and the National Gallery.

Driving there from Kingston

Charing Cross is about 12 to 13 miles from Kingston. The typical route takes the A3 to Wandsworth, then follows the river along the Embankment, or crosses at Vauxhall or Westminster and approaches from the south via Waterloo Bridge. The station is inside the Congestion Charge zone, which applies on weekdays and weekends during charging hours. [State whether the Congestion Charge is included in your fares.]

A typical journey takes 45 to 65 minutes. The Strand and Trafalgar Square are slow at the best of times, so your driver will use the nearest permitted drop-off point.

Journey times are typical estimates and change with traffic and events.

Nights out in the West End

A lot of our Charing Cross bookings are for evenings in town: a theatre trip, a dinner in Covent Garden or a concert. The journey home is the part people worry about, especially after the last convenient train. Book a return with us and your car is confirmed whatever time the curtain comes down. For a group, a 7 seater taxi or minibus keeps everyone together.

Catching a train to Kent

If you are heading to the Kent coast or Tunbridge Wells, let us know your train time and how much luggage you have. Because Charing Cross is in a busy, central location, we recommend allowing more time than you might for Waterloo or Paddington.

Picking up from Charing Cross

For the return, give us your arrival time and we will agree a meeting point nearby, as stopping on the Strand is very restricted. If your train is late, call us and we will move your pick-up.

Choosing between stations

Many Southeastern trains from Charing Cross also stop at London Bridge, which can be easier to reach by road from some parts of south-west London. See our London Bridge taxi page to compare. For South Western Railway services, our Waterloo taxi is the one you need.

A note on timing

Charing Cross is in one of the busiest parts of London. Events in Trafalgar Square, demonstrations in Whitehall and theatre crowds in the evening can all slow traffic. We keep an eye on these when planning your journey, but it is always worth allowing extra time, especially if you have a train to catch rather than a show. If you are not sure when to leave Kingston, call us and we will suggest a pick-up time.

Kent day trips and family visits

Many people take Southeastern trains from Charing Cross to visit family in Kent or for days out to places such as Hastings, Tunbridge Wells and the coast. If you are travelling with older relatives or young children, a door-to-door car to the station removes the hardest part of the journey.

Local pick-ups

We pick up from addresses across our area, including Hampton Wick, Teddington and Ham, as well as Kingston itself.
